Bill-377

Chris McKee

All BCPFFA Local Affiliates;

Please see the following important messages.  Thank you!

See the email from Hassan below – the Conservatives Senators have served notice to ram 377 through tomorrow – they actually have to change the rules of debate in the Senate through this motion.  There is no doubt where the marching orders have come from.  This is another shameless and arrogant manoeuvre.

Please forward to your locals and ask them to email Conservative Senate Leader Claude Carignan to voice their concerns with this abuse of power.

Subject: URGENT: Bill C-377

(French will follow tomorrow)

TO: Members of the CLC Canadian Council

Greetings,

Today, Conservatives in the Senate gave notice to introduce a motion to change the rules of the Senate in order to ram through Bill C-377 tomorrow (June 26th).

The Conservative motion will limit debate and force closure on C-377. Under the existing rules, this is not allowed for private members' bills. In other words, they are trying to change the rules to their advantage right in the middle of a democratic debate.

While we know that some Conservative Senators, such as Senator Diane Bellemare, oppose C-377, we must let most Conservative Senators know that they can't get away with using dirty tricks to subvert democracy and pass bad legislation.

Please ask your locals to e-mail and call Conservative Senate Leader Claude Carignan (claude.carignan@sen.parl.gc.ca; 613-992-0240 or 1-800-267-7362) and Conservative senators saying this is outrageous.

In addition, ask your communications departments to follow the CLC social media feeds.

How dare they change the rules mid-game to pass a bad bill?

In solidarity,

for Hassan Yussuff, President
